This is an excellent coat. I’ve never had a coat built like this, and I’m kind of amazed. The sleeves and middle don’t restrict movement at all, so shoveling and other outdoor work became a lot more comfortable. The coat is warm, though on the coldest winter days I did have to layer up underneath. But I do that anyway. For reference, I’m in northeast PA, in a higher elevation area, and we got down into single digits this past winter. With a tshirt and hoodie underneath, I was fine taking my dog for a half hour walk. I don’t know if they lost it as waterproof, but I’ve worn it in rain and heavy snow, and it’s repelled everything. The material is high quality and I can see this lasting a long time. Highly satisfied. For sizing reference, I’m 6 feet tall and wear a 16 1/2 shirt size with 32-33 sleeve length. This size fits well with a t-shirt and hoodie underneath. This jacket fits so well and looks too good to wear it to work.My husband is picky and works thru clothes quickly. This coat is a winner. He loved it. The fit is great, has many pockets, keeps him dry after many hours in the rain and warm in the winds. Great buy! I followed another reviews suggestion and sized down to a M for him and it worked out well.EDIT: One year later, still love this jacket. Couple design features can be improved, but overall it's a massive improvement over the regular cookie cutter CarharttsAfter getting this jacket, it is actually pretty interesting how many simple but innovative design features there are in it. Scroll to the bottom for the quick summary reviewThe sleeves instantly stuck out to me. The inside of the sleeve has the compression cuff like you would see on a regular jacket. But on the outside, the sleeve extends a bit farther. And, the outside cuff isn't perfectly rounded. The top of it seems to be a bit longer then twords the bottom of the wrist, I assume to keep a bit of breeze off the back of the hand while keeping wrist mobility.I love this feature. I always wear a watch too, so if it's not a blisteringly cold day, I will put the compression part before my watch, but the outer layer will still get to my wrist. The compression cuffs were definitely tight at first, but after a day or 2 of pulling them up my forearm, they stretched a bit to be comfortable. The hood is easily detachable with the snap buttons. It is roomy inside with a beanie, and has a draw string to snug it up.The outside is coated in a water resistant coating, but that is never permanent. I know you can use Greenland was to add more water resistance.POCKETS......I like my pockets. I don't know how women do it, I need pockets. Typical work jackets haveing one little inside pocket doesn't do it for me. There are 2 nice big zipper pockets on the outside, big enough I can fit my big chunky phone with a case in. One inner chest pocket with zipper on the left, and a smaller inner chest pocket on the right with Velcro. And of course, 2 outside waist height pockets for your handsIve been wearing this in about 32°f in a light t-shirt with a beanie and I've been fine, im sure it can go a bit lower. It's roomy enough for sweater underneath (or 2)..The "full swing" includes an arm pit and shoulder gusit to help you move without getting bound up. And because of this, the sleeves aren't super baggy, which is nice. But the chest and stomach is far too baggy for my taste. With all these features to allow better movement, it's annoying to see such a baggy front section. BUT, im on the more slender side of a blue collar worker at 5'9", about 170lbsOh, and I cut the Carhartt logos right off... I think they're ugly, and the jacket looks very nice without them.I’m 5’11” 200 lbs ~20% body fat. When I’m in shape with 6 pack ab definition I’m at ~175. Silly sounding but this will give people a more accurate description of body. i wear large shirts and jackets usually and the large of this was too bulky for my likings so I ordered a Medium to try and kept the medium. It’s not perfect either but closer. Maybe if I weighed 230 then I would have filled the large with just a shirt on underneath. If you are same size or larger as me and plan to always wear some layers underneath I would get large. If you want to wear it with just a shirt underneath and occoationally a second thinner layer then medium fit better. I have fairly broad shoulders and the armpits are slightly tighter then I prefer in the Medium however. I wish the jacket was another 1-2” longer as well. I think a tall medium with normal length arms would be perfect but the tall also makes the arms 2” longer. The jacket itself is awesome is the only reason why I’m dealing with the slightly small portions in the smaller size then I normally wear. Jacket is flexible and extra design considerations in the elbows and shoulders to allow for more movement. -1 star because their sizing is expecting people to be fat. I would not wear this as my outer shell with thick layers underneath with the large size. It’s simply not the right jacket for that use so I’m not sure why Carhart added so much room for insulation other then assuming people are really fat. I’m by no means skinny and I could have almost put a basketball underneath the large. I would wear this in 40 degree weather with just a shirt underneath and be warm enough if I were just walking around. If I were standing around then I would want another layer with this on as well. Really active work that I’m breaking a sweat like digging and hauling etc I can wear this in 15 degrees. As others have said, hood is bigger then needed. Hope this helps someone.Absolutely love this jacket. You might read some reviews that tell you to order a size smaller than normal. I did not do that. I normally wear a large and went with that size for this jacket. In my personal opinion, the fit is spot on. Its roomy, but not way too large, when only wearing a t-shirt underneath, but there is still extra space if you need to add an extra layer. The bottom of the jacket falls right at my waist line, which is great considering I hate jackets that seem too short or ones that seem way too long. The Free Swing tech they use is wonderful and allows pretty much full arm movement, unlike other brands that seem to be restricted and feel too tight in the shoulders. Overall, would highly recommend this to anyone asking about it. A nice, warm jacket, that fits just right. Carhartt did an amazing job. And if you're someone who likes navy blue, the color is spot on as well. The item is very well made, but the large size was too big.Great as always, really great product!, it took 10 days to arrive in Greece from the time order itUPDATE: 23 Jan 2020I now had some time to wear this jacket in cold and snowy conditions for sure. As much as I loved this jacket in the beginning I only like it now.The reasons for me are as follows.1. The double zipper proved to be pain in the but. It is hard to start it and it does not get any easier with everyday use.2. Even with the Full Swing future, my back gets exposed to cold every time I get on/off my compact tractor or picking up material from the ground. I wish it had a inside skirt that your back does not get cold. Maybe I should of get the tall version but then the sleeves would be much longer as well and they are already plenty long in regular size.3. We have some pretty strong winds in Manitoba and I have experienced wind getting thru ever so slightly. Now if you work outside in winter you are going to sweat somewhat and then you can fell the cold for sure.4. This jacket is on heavier side and to drive in it is not that comfortable. I use to have much thinner Columbia jacket that never/ever let any cold in but that beside the point.I really wanted to be a jacket for many, many years but not for me. Will use it on the farm but search for another winter jacket is on again. oh crap.Ok, so I ordered this jacket while back in the summer. Now that is getting much cooler in Manitoba I have used this jacket few times.Wow, the fit is just right. I am 6'2 and about 220lb. So I am not skinny guy and I have long arms. I went with size 2xl regular as Big/Tall size was not available here on Amazon.ca and the length of sleeves is just perfect.I like to wear a hood most of the time and I will have room for one provided it is not too bulky. Jacket itself fits very nice and looks nice even for a office guy. I picked gray colour and love it. detachable hood is nice as well and lots of interior pockets. I would definitively buy this again.Had an issue with the first jacket delivered, there had been a hole in the armpit on the inside. They replaced the jacket with no issues and no extra charges. I read a few reviews before buying it and read that the jacket fits bigger than normal so I went with a medium and still have plenty of room for a large sweater underneath. I live in Northern Ontario and am no stranger to the cold weather. This jacket (with a sweater underneath) had no issues spending the day outside with temperatures as low as -30 or lower. I would recommend this jacket to anyone and would buy again if needed. The Good: 1) Jacket is light-weight, 2) Water-resistant, 3) Fairly warm, 4) Fits slightly big (good for layering underneath), 5) Material has decent stretch giving it a wider range of motion, 6) Has 6 pockets (ie: 2 outside seam pockets, 2 outside chest pockets, 2 inside pockets). The Bad: 1) Hood is too big (not sure if it's adjustable but couldn't find anything resembling a drawstring), 2) Double zipper doesn't zip up easily (not good if you need to up zip up fast& if it's cold outside), 3) Hem of jacket is made shorter than say a Full Swing Armstrong jacket. It does rise up to your belly if you raise your arms up high, 4) The cuffs of the jacket have a strange hooded, asymetrical design instead of a conventional, all around, circular, symmetrical design.Although descriptions & images of the jacket seemed good, after trying it in person, it just wasn't good enough for me despite the good outweighing the bad here.
